Originally designed for NBA Hall of Famer Steve Nash and his family, this Manhattan Beach residence occupies the threshold between the intimacy of home and the openness of the coast. Situated along a prized Walkstreet just steps from the Pacific Ocean, the project explores how architecture can simultaneously engage its surroundings and provide refuge from them.
The deep blue exterior siding departs from the familiar vocabulary of the beach house, establishing a strong and memorable identity within a landscape often defined by lighter tones. Above, a prominent cantilevered roof creates an outdoor room suspended between sky and sea, while alternating glass and solid guardrails carefully calibrate the relationship between view, light, and privacy.
