This coastal residence harmonizes function focused versatility with a profound sense of permanence.
Given the exposure typical of beachfront sites, the design carefully mediates the transition between conditioned interior space and the open air. By utilizing an antiqued glass threshold between the middle-level kitchen and living areas, the design transitions seamlessly from conditioned comfort to an open-air retreat. This connection to the oceanscape is amplified at the beach level, where the horizontal spine of the middle floor plane is leveraged to create an expansive, shaded patio that opens directly to the sand and adjacent landscape.
Inside, moments of verticality take center stage, with primary circulation centralized around a double-height entryway and light-filled atrium. To ground these modern volumes, the home employs a craft-focused materiality, utilizing hand-applied plaster and rugged stone detailing.
Taken as a whole, the design goes beyond a contemporary aesthetic and evokes instead an established, timeless character.
